Sorry if this question bothers you, I already know the Smash Bros game is the primary basis, but will it be anything like Wreck-It Ralph? Just warning you that comparisons will be inevitable.
No it won’t. If anything, The LEGO Movie was our biggest sense of inspiration on making the story work.
In Longest Brawl, all of the Nintendo worlds are connected until a tragedy befell them, forcing each of the realms’ delegates to split each world apart from one another.
So the story focuses on Ness (the main character) hopping from realm to realm with the other six characters as they try to bring the realms back together while searching for the Smash Ball and defeating Master Hand.
What does this announcement mean for the production of Journey of the Spark, or is it simply to begin production following the completion?
Journey of the Spark is still going through with production. What we’re doing with Longest Brawl is that we’re taking our time to fully develop it so that when its finally ready to start, we won’t have the same problems we had with JOTS.
Our primary problem with JOTS was that not enough time was spent on developing the project enough during Pre-Production. As a result, actual production took much longer to start than we personally wanted. It was a rookie mistake that we don’t want to have to make again.
So we’re taking a much longer time developing a good product with Longest Brawl by giving a heavier emphasis on visual development, casting, and storyboarding work. On top of this, a full written treatment has been created detailing all of Longest Brawl’s story and plot details.
The reason as to why Longest Brawl came up as early as it did is because the Art Department has essentially concluded work on Journey of the Spark. Although storyboards and backgrounds undergo changes and actual creation, many of the conceptual artists from the movie have finished up work. So we’re taking the opportunity to start building the team for the next film.
Will "The Longest Brawl" be done in machinima or studio-made CGI?
The Longest Brawl is set to feature animation primarily done in Source Filmmaker with models and other assets created in Maya and other 3D animation programs to assist with the production.
Not only that, but the film will have a few segments that feature flash animation with unique art styles.
