Have you had to rewatch some of the villain's moments to capture some thoughts and ideas for the movie?

Oh we don’t rewatch stuff for the villains, we’ve watched and referenced TONS of moments from the show for inspiration. One of the key episodes we watched for inspiration for the musical numbers was “Magical Mystery Cure” to get the feeling of how to stage them through storyboards and animation.

What's with all this talk of the film taking place between season 2 and 3? Previously you said the film would ignore everything after season 2 in order to establish the largest audience possible. Why the sudden change?

When we thought about it, we wanted to get new people into the Friendship is Magic universe. But thinking about some things and the way that the movie ends with the draft we have, it would only leave those newcomers confused when they finally go into Friendship is Magic because the audience won’t be able to distinguish the differences between the film and the show primarily because they are so vastly different from one another.

The best way to get newcomers into the film is to make sure that the story stands out on its own enough so that we can introduce the characters but also stick to what’s been established enough so that fans can enjoy it as well. We wanna find a healthy balance and a lot of the concerns fans took with the Concept Trailer I think is one of the reasons why we want to ensure that we find a healthy enough balance so we can get both markets on our side.

Sometimes you need to make sacrifices and while the direction we were taking was interesting on its own, I feel that if we were to continue going in the direction we were, the film would only alienate audiences rather than letting them embrace it.

What part of creating this movie is your favorite ?

I love working with the Art Team because its so much fun to see all the creative aspects get a visual representation of what we’re planning on featuring in the movie.

Some of the stuff we’re creating is absolutely phenomenal and its gonna be loads of fun to see it created for the final cut.

But I also love working with Forest and Jeff. The two of them, when it comes to the songwriting, just really get what I wanna do and what will work with the story. The two of them together are absolutely fantastic. Forest is fantastic with the music and Jeff is beyond incredible with his lyrical abilities.

timgil21 asked:

I know that the film takes place between seasons 2 and 3, but are there any acknowledgements of details about the world not revealed until season 3 or beyond that could fit in with the movie plot?

As Season 4 dawns over the horizon, we’ve been going through the script and while some aspects of the story are good, we’ve been rethinking what exactly we want to do with the ending and other aspects of the story.

While I can’t speak about what exactly it is that we’re doing, we’re going to try as hard as we can to make the film fit within Seasons 2 and 3 and try to connect it to particular aspects of later episodes in Season 3’s story arc.

In some cases, some of the ideas found throughout the movie reflect a lot of Lauren Faust’s original ideas, but others coincide with what’s already been established in canon.
