With Greninja and Espeon being part of the main cast, are you going to have them talk like pets with their names or like humans if you're planning to give them human voices?
They’re gonna have human voices. If Meowth can do it, why not Espeon and Greninja? XD
I heard that you're going to be including Espeon in The Longest Brawl and that raises a question for Pokemon fans: Will there be any more Pokemon featured in the movie besides Espeon?
Of course! That’s a staple of the Smash Bros. series. You’ll potentially be seeing loads of Pokemon in the background.
Let’s not forget also, Greninja is one of the main characters alongside Espeon. Both of them are my favorites!
Will the characters' 3D models be taken/modified from the games, built entirely from the ground up, or half and half?
Both. While most of the models are readily available for us to use, some characters and assets will be built completely from the ground up. This mostly applies to the characters we included in the movie that come from the newest Smash Bros. games for the 3DS and Wii U.
Will you be trying to get someone like YouTuber/game animator Jesse Baumgartner, who's started doing SFM animations (with blockings included) of Team Fortress 2 characters, to serve as animation supervisor? 'Cause with someone like Jesse Baumgartner, that'd be awesome!
Actually, we already have someone on board to be our Animation Director for the 3D portions of Longest Brawl. He’s a good friend of ours and he’s one of my co-workers.
His name is David Roldan and he currently serves as one of the Lead Animators on They Live in a Castle and Luigimail, the Source Filmmaker-created Mario Bros. Machinima series. We’re thrilled to have him and he’s thrilled to be taking part.
As long as we're talking about characters, what can you tell us about the other heroes?
I can’t reveal too many details, but I’ll lightly touch on some of the other characters you’ll see in the movie as well as their personalities.
Espeon is incredibly vital to the story. She’s capable of speaking telepathically to Ness because they both possess psychic abilities. To the rest of the crew, Espeon only makes the noises she does in the Pokemon games. She can often be very independent, but over the course of the movie, she forms a very platonic friendship with Ness.
Olimar is incredibly weird and sometimes serves as the comic relief but never comes off as annoying. He’s quirky, but never useless. Greninja also happens to be Olimar’s personal pokemon. He rarely speaks, but when he does, its straight forward and to the point; which leads to some rather humorous moments in the movie.
Rosalina is very much portrayed as a Disney-ish Mary Poppins like character. Sickly sweet, very sing-songy, but oozing with heart and imagination. Kirby is just… well… Kirby! He doesn’t change much from the games. Though we plan to take advantage of how murderous he is despite his cute exterior XD
